Here’s a new ad I shot in November last year.
I play the security guard at the beginning, and although it’s a small part of the whole, the shoot was a tremendous amount fun.
It’s an incredibly stunt-heavy commercial and it was a ton of fun hanging out with the stunties and the precision driver Danie Malan, who very kindly didn’t run me over take after take.
It took 3 nights to shoot and even though I was wrapped by about 2am on the third night I stuck around until around 4 to watch Danie drive that Renault 5 down the steps outside the Artscape (incidentally those steps are where I shot Elmo Gonif’s empassioned megaphone speech in ST3: Marauder).
What was also a thrill was to have my good friend and ex-DOP, Digby Young come and visit me on set. While I sat around waiting for the photo-shoot on the last night, he gave me a concise, but complete history of film cameras. Starting with black/white cameras, all the way through tricolour, 3D, Imax to HD. If you’re not a cinephile that may sound a little boring, but I assure you it was riveting conversation.
The evening finished with Digs and I having coffee at around 8am before finally heading home to sleep.
