Chronicle, out now

Chronicle, out now

Chronicle has opened across the US to rave reviews with an 85% rating at RottenTomotoes.

WE KNOW that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

But could it also corrupt Matt, Drew and Steve?

This is the question posed by “Chronicle,” a smarter-than-average sci-fi movie about three high school boys whose contact with a mysterious object gives them telekinetic powers.

I don’t know if Chronicle is the first found-footage superhero film, but I’m certain it’s the best—and will remain so for a very long time.

Straight off the 2000AD twitter feed came this piece of news:

@2000AD: For those who missed it last night, Judge Dredd creator John Wagner talks to the LA Times about the new ‘Dredd’ movie http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2012/01/19/judge-dredd-creator-three-reasons-im-excited-about-new-film/

This March marks the 35th anniversary of Judge Dredd but, more importantly, this may be the year that Hollywood finally does justice to the hard-hearted lawman of Mega-City One. The character is one of the signature creations on the British comics scene (Empire Magazine ranked him the seventh greatest character in all comics, in fact, one spot ahead of the Joker and just two behind Spider-Man) and a clear influence on the dystopian mayhem of both “Robocop” and Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns.” But, today, for most Americans, the name Judge Dredd draws a blank look or, worse, a groan thanks to the shiny, torpid 1995 Sylvester Stallone film.”
